Woodland handles Dwight in TCC tourney; Pontiac’s Trinity Miller reaches 1,000-point mark

Top-seed Woodland was able to pull away late for a 59-51 victory over fifth-seed Dwight to advance to the championship game of the Tri-County Conference tournament Wednesday.

Nolan Price guided the Warriors (15-6) with 23 points. He drilled seven 3-pointers to push his season total to 90. He is third on the career list with 200, just one behind Kyle Voytko (201 from 2015-18) and 17 behind the all-time WHS leader and current head coach Connor Kaminke (217 from 2008-11).
The game was tight until late, when the Warriors were able to pull away. Price scored five points in the fourth quarter, matching the entire Dwight output. Noah Decker had six points in the frame.

Woodland led 16-11 after the first period and 30-26 at the half. The Trojans put up 20 points in the third frame to take a 46-45 lead into the last stanza.
Jaron Follmer added 10 points for Woodland while Nate Berry and Grant Wissen chipped in 8 points apiece. Decker finished with 6 points.

Joe Duffy scored 16 points to pace Dwight (11-9). Collin Bachand added 11 points, Joey Starks chipped in 10 and Evan Cox netted 8 points.
Woodland will take on Ottawa (Marquette) in the title game Friday night. Dwight squares off against Seneca in the third-place game.
Miller reaches 1,000 points
From Tuesday, Trinity Miller reached a career milestone when she tallied her 1,000th point for Pontiac in the Indians’ 67-39 Illini Prairie Conference victory over Rantoul.

Miller scored 21 points in the game, including 10 in the third period, as she joined the 1,000-point club.
Jo Duck added 13 points and Bailee Branscum chipped in 12 for the Indians. Celi Serna and Grace Lanning each tossed in 6 markers and Morgan Dewald netted 5.
The PTHS girls will be back in action Friday at Paxton-Buckley-Loda.
