TeriLynn Timmerman drops 29 in leading Fieldcrest past GCMS

TeriLynn Timmerman had a huge scoring night in leading Fieldcrest to a come-from-behind victory over Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley in Heart of Illinois Conference girls’ basketball Thursday.



El Paso-Gridley hit a dry spell late in falling to Eureka in HOIC play Thursday and West Central lost to Stark County in Lincoln Trail play Wednesday.


Also on Wednesday, Dwight’s boys handled Putnam County in a Tri-County Conference tilt at John Kresl Memorial Gymnasium.


Fieldcrest 59, GCMS 58

At Minonk, the Knights have relied on the roster to help pick up for their scoring leader, Macy Gochanour, who has been sidelined. It was Timmerman going well beyond expectations as she poured in 29 points in leading the FHS comeback on Pink Night.



GCMS led 20-10 after one period, but Fieldcrest began its comeback in the second, cutting the margin to 33-31 by halftime. The Knights got in front with its 49-48 lead by the start of the fourth frame.


Leah Armes added 10 points while Pru Mangan chipped in 9 points and Ivory Bryant scored 8.


Lily Sizemore paced GCMS with 24 points.


Eureka 61, EPG 53

At El Paso, the host Titans were looking for an upset but failed to score for more than three minutes down the stretch in falling 61-53 to Eureka.



The Hornets led 28-24 at the half, but EPG rallied to take a 44-40 lead into the final lap. The Titans led 53-46 when the lid closed on the basket. They did not score over the final 3:32 as Eureka rallied, taking the lead for good on a three-point play with 59 seconds remaining. EHS was 17 of 18 from the charity stripe.


Myli Ehrhardt led El Paso-Gridley (15-11, 5-4) with 18 points and 21 rebounds. Lilt Wettstein chipped in 16 points and Sloan Gentes scored 10 points. Edie Stauter contributed 5 points and 8 boards.


Mya Edwards hit for 28 points in leading Eureka (18-7).


Stark County 42, West Central 21

West Central had good balance in its scoring, but the Heat just didn’t get enough scoring in a 42-21 loss to Stark County.



Addison Burrell led West Central with 6 points. Lainey Klossing, Macee McConnell and Kaiser Henry had 4 points apiece.


Dwight 70, Putnam County 63

At Dwight, Joey Starks led a second-half comeback for Dwight as the Trojans took down visiting Putnam County 70-63.



Dwight trailed 32-27 at the intermission, but erupted for 25 points in the third period for a 52-43 edge. Starks scored nine points and Evan Cox added eight. Starks added seven points in the fourth quarter and Trojans went 9 of 11 from the free throw line to seal the victory.


Starks finished with 23 points and Cox tallied 21 markers for the Trojans. Joe Duffy hit for 12 points while Collin Bachand had 9 points and Trevor Jensen scored 5.
