Macy Gochanour sets Fieldcrest career scoring mark

Macy Gochanour has spent her prep basketball career just trying to win games. For her Fieldcrest program, that meant she needed to score, and sometimes a lot.



On Thursday, Gochanour scored 32 points to lead the Knights to a win in McLean County Tournament play. These markers elevated the sharpshooter to a new program standard for a career.


Fieldcrest 60, Tremont 46

At Tremont, Fieldcrest advanced with an upset of the fifth-seeded Turks. Highlighting the win was Gochanour as she became the all-time leading scorer in FHS girls’ basketball history.



Gochanour’s dropped 32 points raised her Fieldcrest career total to 1,787 points.


Behind Gochanour, the Knights took a 16-9 lead in the first period and maintained a 24-21edge at the half. It was a 38-33 game through three quarters before FHS closed out the victory.


TeriLynn Timmerman added 15 points and Pru Mangan contributed 10 points and 8 rebounds for the Knights.


Tremont was led by Sophia Wagenbach with 18 points.


EPG 58, GCMS 51

At Gibson City, El Paso-Gridley relied on a strong second quarter to get past host GCMS. The Titans outscored the Falcons 15-7 in the second after both teams put up 13 points in the opening frame for a 28-20 lead. It was a 40-33 game after three periods.



The Falcons cut the margin to 44-42 midway through the last stanza, but EPG made key free throws down the stretch to fend off GCMS.


Myli Ehrhardt led EPG (11-10) with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Edie Stauter tossed in 15 points and Lily Wettstein collected 14 points and 7 boards. Lily Sizemore poured on 32 points for GCMS (15-7).


Top-seed Tri-Valley and third-seed Eureka will meet for teh title after both posted semifinal victories at the Shirk Center at Illinois Wesleyan. The Vikings handled No. 4 Heyworth 59-48. Eureka stung second seeded and Class 1A top-ranked Dee-Mack 62-47.


The championship game will be held at the Shirk on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. The third-place, fifth-place and consolation final will take place Saturday at El Paso.


In boys’ consolation play, Tri-Valley and Dee-Mack will square of for fifth place after posting wins on Thursday. The ninth-seeded Vikings topped No. 5 Fieldcrest 75-70 in Minonk, and second-seed Dee-Mack topped No. 2 Eureka 66-44.


The boys’ semifinals are slated for Friday at the Shirk Center with top-seed and Class 1A sixth-ranked LeRoy facing fourth-seed Lexington in the first game, with No. 10 EPG and No. 6 Tremont squaring off in the second game.


The title game will be at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Shirk. The consolation contests will be at El Paso.


Tolono 50, Prairie Central 48

At Tolono, Prairie Central faced a six-point deficit at teh half and tried to make it all the back, only to fall short 50-48 to host Tolono (Unity) in an Illini Prairie Conference girls’ game Thursday.



The Hawks trailed 30-24 at the break before trimming the margin to 42-41 by the start of the fourth period.


Addi Donley led Prairie Central (10-13, 2-3) with 12 points while Lexi Donovan checked in with 10 points. Jayla Hammond had 8 points and 5 rebounds and Jules Woodrey scored 7 points.


BCC 56, Pontiac 50

At Bloomington, host Central Catholic’s able stay just ahead of Pontiac over the final three quarters to edge the Indians 56-50 in an Illini Prairie Conference game Thursday.



The Saints turned a 9-8 deficit after one quarter into a 24-22 lead at the half. It was a 38-35 difference through three periods.


Emma Hurie had 21 points and 10 rebounds for BCC. Taylor Cook scored 13 points and Maddie Welch added 11 points and 7 boards.


There was no scoring information for Pontiac provided.
