DWIGHT — A common event to any sports season is the recognition of seniors before their final home game. Making this event more joyful is winning the game. This is what Dwight did Tuesday as five Trojans reached double figures in scoring in a 76-54 victory over Tri-Point at Kresl Memorial Gymnasium.

The evening’s slate of events included the recognition of the seniors before the game, and a special halftime performance by the cheerleaders, a couple of basketball players and other members of the student body.

But the main event was the ballgame. Where teams like to have an easy go of it, Tri-Point wasn’t going to play the patsy on this night. The Chargers put up quite the battle until Dwight’s depth and overall talent came to the forefront.

It was like a siege for the Trojans, who progressively pushed Tri-Point away. The two sides traded blows in the first quarter, but DTHS finished the period with a 16-15 edge.

Behind Trevor Jensen, the Trojans were able to create a little more room in the second period, outscoring The Point 19-12 for a 35-27 halftime advantage. Jensen scored nine points in the quarter.

Despite a short halftime pep talk — the team was in the balcony watching the halftime show that included senior Joey Starks — Dwight was able to turn up the heat on defense while outscoring the Chargers 21-12 in the frame, giving the home team a 56-39 lead heading into the final frame.

Six different players made the scoring column in the fourth quarter as the Trojans put the game away.

“The team’s offensive balance and consistent scoring across the lineup helped build and maintain a comfortable lead throughout the game,” DTHS head coach Jeremy Connor said. “Balanced scoring and depth were the keys to the win.”
