El Paso-Gridley triumphant in boys’ and girls’ contests; Hayes reaches milestone
El Paso-Gridley captured a Heart of Illinois Conference victory in girls’ basketball play on Monday, while the EPG boys scored a nonconference win over Delavan in a makeup contest from December. Braden Hayes reached a scoring milestone in the boys’ victory.

In other action, Fieldcrest handled Lexington in a Heart of Illinois girls’ contest and the West Central girls fell to Knoxville.
EPG 53, Fisher 19
At El Paso, the host Titans fell behind early but turned up the heat to chase Fisher 53-19 at the Titan Center.

The Bunnies led 8-6 in the first quarter before El Paso-Gridley ruled off a 16-2 run. EPG led 12-8 after one period and increased the advantage to 22-10 by the intermission. A 21-point third quarter sealed the victory for the Titans.
Myli Ehrhardt hit for 19 points and grabbed 8 rebounds for the Titans (13-10, 5-3). Sloan Gentes added 8 points and was followed by Sophie Hinthorne with 7, Kathleen Iorger with 6 and Edie Stauter with 5 points.
Vanessa Sides led Fisher (8-13, 0-7) with 9 points.
EPG 63, Delavan 38
At Delavan, EPG junior Braden Hayes scored his 1,000th career point in helping the Titans top Delavan 63-38 in a game originally slated for Dec. 13. Hayes now stands at1,008 for his career.

Going into he game, Hayes needed 14 points to hit 1,000. He hit that mark in the second period.
The Titans trailed 14-12 after the first quarter. Behind Hayes, EPG tallied 18 in the second to take a 30-20 advantage. The lead doubled in the third as El Paso-Gridley outscored Delavan 20-10.
Hayes finished with 22 points and Cha’von Maxon tallied 10 for El Paso-Gridley (10-10). Owen Adams added 9 points and Jack Hempstead scored 7.
Grady Burrel had 10 points to lead Delavan (9-12). The Panthers did not shoot a free throw as EPG was called for just four fouls.
Fieldcrest 69, Lexington 44
At Minonk, Fieldcrest had four players reach double figures in a 69-44 Heart of Illinois Conference girls’ win over Lexington.

The Knights got off to a good start in building a 16-7 lead in the first period. FHS ramped up the scoring by dropping 25 in the second to take a 41-15 lead into the half. The margin to 57-29 after three quarters.
Macy Gochanour led the Knights (12-12, 3-5) with 19 points. TeriLynn Timmerman had 14 points, Pru Mangan tossed in 12 and Leah Armes scored 11 points.

Kennedy Sennett led Lexington (4-18, 0-7) with a game-high 21 points.
Knoxville 61, West Central 20
At Biggsville, West Central head coach Thomas Williams was happy with how his team played despite a 61-20 loss to Knoxville at home Monday.

“The girls played hard all night long and frustrated their opponent on the defensive side,” Williams noted. “The Heat played well on offense tonight, getting up a good number of looks but the ball just wouldn't go through the hoop.”
Lia Klossing led the Heat with 6 points. Reegan Shafer chipped in 5 points.
